Midland Whippet Championship Show Bitches - 20th October 2024

Firstly, I would like to thank the Society for the invitation to judge this friendly and well-run show, my stewards were very capable and kept the ring running smoothly. I have not judged females since 2018 as was really looking forward judging a fantastic entry of 147 bitches making 179 entries. I found the overall quality quite disappointing with a great variation of size type and outline. There were not many that fitted the breed standard, broad, well-muscled back, firm, somewhat long, showing a gracefully arch over the loin but not humped, many had a top line with the arch more towards the middle of the back giving a totally different outline. There were some with shoulders that were set too far apart not giving that lovely flow when running your hand down the neck into the top line. Also, surprisingly there were some exhibits with dirty teeth, even from exhibitors who you would have thought should know better. A Whippet ideally should hold their shape both standing and moving, some did not have the most appealing outline standing but looked good on the move and vice versa making my decisions difficult in some of the classes.

Veteran (7-9 years) (7, 2abs)

1st Vaughan-Wall’s Shirotae Solo Suprise VW, lovely entry of veterans in both classes and its great to see them all in such great condition and a credit to their owners, I always feel it is unfair to say negative things about them, all I can say is thank you for entering them, you were placed where I thought you should be on construction and movement
